Nick Jonas has a new magazine cover under his belt, but some fans are not pleased to see their favorite on this particular magazine. On September 9, Nick tweeted about his latest cover for Cigar Aficionado magazine, writing, "First person under 30 to hold a cigar on the cover of one of my favorite magazines. So pumped about this one! Thank you @CigarAficMag! Issue on newsstands September 24th." He also posted a few pics from the shoot to his Instagram page, where he can be seen in a black suit, holding a cigar.
We all know that the health risks related to cigar smoking far outweigh the alleged "coolness" of smoking one. According to the Mayo Clinic, cigar smoking is similar to cigarette smoking in that both can increase your risk of getting cancer, lung, or heart disease, and oral diseases; even inhaling secondhand smoke can pose a risk. Nick has long been a cigar fan; he's been spotted puffing away on one many times, dating as far back as 2015. At almost 27, he's the youngest-ever person to cover Cigar Aficionado magazine; the publication shared that the cover usually goes to older stars, including Michael Jordan and Jack Nicholson. Fans were quick to call Nick out on Twitter, asking him to consider quitting his cigar habit. "Please stop smoking Nick😔!!! Your voice and laungs [sic] are going to pay all those cigars... Your voice worth so much more," wrote one fan account. "Since when is it an achievement to smoke under 30? Sad," wrote another. One fan had a few suggestions for other things Nick could hold in the picture instead of a cigar, including a chickadee and a Grammy Award. Others were more direct. "Gross and irresponsible as a singer and a human raised knowing the health risks but okay," tweeted a fan. It's also worth noting that Nick has Type 1 diabetes, and smoking as a diabetic can be risky; the CDC recommends smokers with diabetes quit immediately to see increased health benefits. Nick has yet to address fan comments about the cover. Teen Vogue has reached out to his team for comment.
