Power Radio Social & Web Team The idea for this show has been in the making ever since the quarantine ended and the theatres reopened. This show was staged on Sunday 23 January at 7pm and as many of us expected, it was a complete sold-out. The musical about the six consort queens of Henry VIII travelled through time one more night to remind us that they also have a voice and that they are not just the wives of the King of England. Thanks to this production, new generations are approaching and becoming interested in this part of history. As we all know, everyone is aware of who Henry VIII was, but no one has ever really looked at the lives of his six wives until this wonderful musical, written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, came along. Yesterday, on the special night where the audience was allowed to sing along with the cast, no disappointment was to be expected. In the queue to enter the theatre there was already a different atmosphere, the Strand Street looked colourful among all the attendees dressed up in the different costumes of the 6 queens. People of all ages gathered at the famous Vaudeville Theatre to pay tribute to these six iconic women. Once inside the theatre and with all the audience seated, a guy dressed up as the king could be seen in the audience, which surprised and pleased the actresses as we could see in their Instagram stories once the show was over. The show featured the wonderful cast of: Amy Di Bartolomeo (Catherine of Aragon), Amanda Lindgren (Anne Boleyn), Roxanne Couch (Jane Seymour), Dionne Ward- Anderson (Anne of Cleves), Tsemaye Bob-Egbe (Katherine Howard) and Meesha Turner (Catherine Parr). Here’s a (bit blurry) picture that I took at the end of the show!
If the audience went crazy with the opening chords of the first song, Ex-Wives, imagine the rest of the show: marvellous. Feeling everyone singing along and voicing the lives of the six queens was an incomparable experience. Hopefully they will do a similar show again in a short time so that more people can enjoy this magnificent experience.
